1. Conserve your energy with nourishing food and wholesome thoughts and actions.

2. Surround yourself as much as possible with people, literature, music and media that support you.

3. Set a great example to your children by showing them love and respect and they will return the favor.

4. Mindset is 80% of success, so believe in your children and nurture their talents and gifts, as every human being has amazing untapped potential.

5. Give them feedback about what they have done well and how than can improve rather than handing out putdowns.

6. When speaking with them use language that gives them directions for what to do (positive language) rather than what not to do (negative language) e.g. “Put the clothes you have taken off, in the laundry basket”, rather than “Don’t leave your clothes on the floor!”

7. Lower the tone of your voice at the end of a sentence, to encourage your children to follow your instructions.

8. Give them one direction at a time and also give them time to process, rather than nagging them, to ensure the task is commenced.

9. Use eye contact, speak clearly and have an intention about what you want to say.

10. Learn to manage your negative emotions and allow yourself to feel slightly better by doing something physical or saying nice things to yourself, and your child will notice and learn.

11. Call your child by name and never give your child a negative label, as young children believe everything their parents tell them, even if it isn’t true.

12. Create quality time with your children, such as at meal time or when traveling in the car.
